Seeking that Heart-Shaped Tub near Asheville?
It’s no easy task to get a tub like this in a cabin but Silver Lining Cabin near Asheville and the Biltmore Estate has one.
Not oblong, not triangular, but a true heart-shaped tub installed for romance in mind in our new Asheville cabin in the woods.
How did you do that? First you have to persuade the high-quality MTI luxury tub maker to bring the tub mold out of retirement. It was quite the rage in the 1960s-90s…I mean… pretty racy to think about a tub that would hold two people, need I say more. And they were usually made to be bright red in a room surrounded by mirrors like in the honeymoon cabins of Gatlinburg, TN! But with a promise, MTI said they would find it and manufacture it for us.
It was shipped in 6 weeks.Not red but this one is elegant white. It is an engineered tub that is a handmade work of art with the look and feel of molded stone.
It took three strong men to carry it in the new cabin through the studs to set in place. Awkward- because the tub is surrounded by a pre-leveled frame system plus you have the pump for the whirlpool, in line heater and all the tubes and system cleaning lines looking like an entangled octopus.
Once in place (without the walls mind you, you have to keep it protected from the carpenters who wield large hammers, the drywallers who sling mud, the window installers who climb around it and the painters who spatter.
But when it comes time for the tile lady, the tub gets uncovered and new respect is shown with careful, fitted tiles in a surround.
And gosh, it’s a beauty in place with a huge picture window to gaze out of at the trees and sky. No other houses can be seen, just nature and nurture. It bubbles, it swishes, it pulsates, it blasts every sore muscle you could possibly have or it is still water when no buttons are activated- all for you to relax in Silver Lining Cabin.
