Start With What Matters Most

Before buying supplies or adding projects to your list, decide what matters most to the two of you. Maybe it’s the food, photography, live music, flowers, or simply having plenty of time with your guests.

Once you know your priorities, it’s easier to decide where to spend your budget and what you can skip. You don’t have to include every wedding tradition just because it’s a wedding tradition.

Keep Your DIY List Manageable

A few DIY projects can be fun. A long list of them can add up quickly. Before taking something on, think about how many you need, how long it will take, how you’ll get everything to the venue, and who will handle setup and cleanup.

Choose the projects you’ll actually enjoy making and keep the rest simple. Catering, photography, florals, music, and day-of coordination may be worth handing off. If someone keeps asking, “What can I do?” give them a job!

Let the Farm Do Some of the Work

One benefit of an outdoor wedding is that you don’t have to decorate every inch of it. At Cloud 9, you can get married beneath the trees at our Cathedral in the Woods or at the gazebo overlooking Peterson Pond. Our brand new pavilion and reception area next to the pond give you a beautiful place to gather. With woods, water, mountain views, and a blueberry field surrounding you, you may not need as much decoration as you think.

A few flowers, candles, string lights, handmade signs, or meaningful pieces from home can be plenty. Save your DIY energy for the details that really matter to you.

Make a Plan, Then Enjoy It

Start your projects earlier than you think you need to and make sure everyone helping knows what they’re responsible for. The less you leave for the final week, the more time you’ll have to enjoy the lead-up to the wedding. 

And there’s plenty to enjoy at Cloud 9. Guests can stroll the grounds, play croquet or horseshoes, gather around the fire pit, or explore the nature trails. Four vacation rentals are tucked away on the property, so you can settle in for the weekend and spend more time together before and after the wedding.

When the big day arrives, put down the glue gun and be done planning. You’ve done the work. Now it’s time to enjoy it and of course, get married!
